From the Chair of Trustees:
WISH For Africa is a charitable trust that was set up to address some of the problems faced in delivering healthcare in African communities.
Poverty and poor healthcare are the twin scourges ravaging the African continent.
Our aim is to raise funds and deploy these funds to support various sustainable healthcare initiatives and projects in African countries.
As the whole world is joining arms to eradicate poverty in Africa, WISH For Africa shall be working to build a sustainable institution capable of reinvesting time and time again in healthcare for the common good of all deprived African communities.
Healthcare projects by their nature are long-term and capital intensive, and they need to be geographically well-spread to have the necessary impact on the populace. However, due to policy failures on the part of governments, most of the poor do not benefit from any form of government investments in healthcare. Private investors are not particularly interested either as healthcare investments are not considered 'attractive' because of lack of instant profits. Hence, the voice and needs of the poor are neither heard nor met.
The tragic consequence of this is that health statistics of these countries are very depressing as the poor; contribute mostly to the disease burden of any nation for all the obvious reasons.
WISH For Africa is therefore determined to be the voice of the poor by bringing their plight to the attention of the world and focusing worldwide support through charitable donations to healthcare projects that are designed to meet the needs of the poor, such as setting up a new hospital in a low-socioeconomic area, helping a young community pharmacist set up a drug store, or providing micro-finance to buy life-saving medical equipment for a struggling rural hospital. These projects typically should demonstrate how they impact positively on the community and they should be sustainable after a period of initial support.
WISH For Africa has developed appropriate targeting strategies to deal with the problems associated with providing this level of support within the poorly-regulated economic climate in most developing countries of Africa through the model framework that had been established in Nigeria by the pioneering work of a medical doctor and social entrepreneur based in the United Kingdom.
WISH For Africa's mission is to focus people's perceptions on how much can be achieved to improve healthcare outcomes in the poor communities of Africa through charitable or non-profitable means by providing medical establishments and healthcare workers with the support they need to be efficient, independent and economically viable.
The economic growth of this neglected, yet very important sector in most developing nations of Africa is central to the core beliefs and objectives of the founders and trustees of WISH For Africa.
To achieve our aims, we recognise that our donors must have confidence in our abilities; our sponsors must be able to see what we are doing and where their money is being used. Only this culture of diversity, openness and transparency can make our inspiration and aspirations have lasting value.
Please support WISH For Africa in making poor healthcare outcomes history in Africa.
Thank you.
