WISH for Africa provides affordable and accessible healthcare to poor communities in Africa through one of these community-based healthcare centres above, thankfully from funds collected from generous public donations.
We are however struggling to keep this healthcare centre from closing down (opened in April 2004), this medical centre is located in the urban slum of Mafoluku-Oshodi in Lagos, Nigeria.
We need only £2,000 to stay open every year and we hope you can be of assistance!
How do we make a difference to African communities through one of these centres?
We subsidise the cost to the patients who otherwise would have gone without decent care by paying for the cost of running such centres - e.g the wages of the doctors and nurses, and the annual rent of the building.
The small fees paid by the patients are used to maintain the drugs and medications fund.
Life Saving Community-based Healthcare Centres:
These centres are life savers, for example, just before the last Christmas, a young pregnant mother was rushed into this particular healthcare centre.
She was having painful contractions and was to deliver imminently. She was
bleeding heavily and was dehydrated. She had no money on her. A fatal outcome, commonly seen in Africa, was prevented because we were there to help this woman who delivered her babies (twins) safely. You can read the full Story here.
Please contact us directly if you would like to make a large donation and support this life saving healthcare centre!
Help us keep this medical centre and others like it open and help save more lives in Africa.
We hope we would never be forced to close these centres due to lack of funds.
Thank you for your support.
